Author Biography

Rob Drew, Saginaw Valley State University

Professor Drew received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Communication from the Annenberg School for Commication, at the University of Pennsylvania. He received a B.A. in English from Columbia University. His research focuses on media studies, audience studies, ethnography, popular culture, and popular music. He currently completed a book on karaoke entitled "Where the People Are the Real Stars: Karaoke Bars in Philadelphia" (AltaMira Press). He has authored chapters on karaoke and graffiti featured in "Hop on Pop: The Pleasures and Politics of Popular Culture" (Henry Jenkins, Tara McPherson, and Jane Shattuc, editors) and "On the Margins of Art Worlds" (Larry Gross, editor). When not researching popular culture Dr. Drew enjoys basketball, swimming, terrible 1970s music, and being tormented by young children. Dr. Drew regularly teaches Communication in Marketplace and Media, Communication and Popular Culture, and Communication Theory. He also teaches Media, Meaning and Audience in the Communication and Multimedia masters degree.
