Abstract

Translations have historically maintained an essential role in the diffusion of knowledge, culture, arts, and sciences across national and cultural borders. This article introduces the special section on translations, situating the analysis within the unfolding globalization phenomena that have fostered an international communication milieu in which English is increasingly the lingua franca in academic, economic, technological, and popular culture domains.
