Author Biography

Michael Gow, Senior Research Fellow (Non-Resident) China Policy Institute University of Nottingham

Dr Mike Gow is currently non-resident Senior Fellow at the China Policy Insitute, University of Nottingham (UK).   His research focuses on the superstructural reform in contemporary China, with a Cultural Studies approach and theoretical frameworks using concepts from Gramsci, Bourdieu and Fei Xiaotong. Mike's interest focuses on communication between the Chinese state and citizens through institutions including higher education, state media, social media and the entertainment industry. He holds a PhD in Eat Asian Studies from the University of Bristol and has held appointments as postdoctoral fellow at NYU Shanghai and Teaching Fellow at Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University.
